Low Season Challenges
The low season (June to October) presents unique challenges for travelers wishing to visit Koh Lipe from Langkawi. Due to rough seas and limited immigration services on the island, direct ferry routes are often unavailable. This means that your journey will require multiple transfers and take longer than usual.
Getting there: Langkawi to Koh Lipe
- Depart from Kuah Jetty, Langkawi: Take the ferry to Tammalang Pier, Satun, Thailand. The ferry operates once daily at 9:30 AM (local time). Occasionally, departures are delayed by 1-2 hours due to tidal conditions, so always check the schedule on www.cuticutilangkawi.com before booking.
- From Tammalang Pier to Pakbara Pier: After clearing immigration at Tammalang Pier (arriving around 10:30 AM local time), take a taxi or private car to Pakbara Pier, approximately 70 kilometers away, which takes about 1-1.30 hours. You’ll arrive around noon, giving you an hour time for a meal at Pakbara Pier before boarding the speedboat to Koh Lipe.
- Speedboat to Koh Lipe: The final leg of the journey is by speedboat from Pakbara Pier to Koh Lipe. The last speedboat departs at 1:30 PM, a 1.30 hr journey and arriving around 3:00 PM.

Note: that speedboats are the only option during this season; there are no ferries available. Therefore, there are no other options. Passengers traveling on this trip need to be physically fit for the journey.
During the low season, speedboats typically pick up and drop off passengers at Sunrise Beach. However, if the sea levels are not too high and the waves are calm, the boats will dock at Pattaya Beach as usual.
Koh Lipe does not have a permanent pier; instead, there is a floating platform that allows passengers to walk to the beach.
